Joint Letter in Support of HIV Prevention and Pharmacy Syringe Sales
This 1999 joint letter signed by American Medical Association(AMA), American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) calls for the removal or modification of legal barriers to increase the availability of sterile syringes through pharmacies. AIDS Project L.A.
AIDS Project Los Angeles is dedicated to: improving the lives of people affected by HIV disease; reducing the incidence of HIV infection; and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy. Resources include bilingual direct services, prevention education & harm reduction based support groups.

Hepatitis C Task Force for Los Angeles Resource Guide
The Hepatitis C Task Force for Los Angeles (HCTF-LAC) is a group of private and public agencies, advocates and concerned individuals working in collaboration to prevent the spread of Hepatitis C and improve the quality of living for people with Hepatitis C. The services presented in this guide are mostly free or offered at low cost. Resources include testing & treatment facilities, support groups and a listing of L.A. syringe exchange providers.
Homeless Health Care Los Angeles

Provides information regarding HIV and related health information. Resources include multimedia resources, including copies of the film highlighting the DPDP- “A Fundamental Service.”
California Board of Pharmacy
Protects consumers, enforces pharmacy laws, and licenses pharmacists and pharmacies. Website includes an article on SB 1159, which appears in the October, 2005 issue of “The Script,” the Board’s newsletter.
California Hepatitis Alliance
The California Hepatitis Alliance (CalHEP) seeks to reduce the scope and consequences of the hepatitis B and C epidemics, which disproportionately affect California’s ethnic communities and the socioeconomically undeserved. The CalHep site includes tips for those working to secure approval for pharmacy syringe sales in their local jurisdiction.

National Resources
The Body: An HIV/AIDS Information Resource
The Body attempts to lower barriers between patients and clinicians by demystifying HIV/AIDS and its treatment. Content includes news stories, an “Ask the Expert” forum, and other related resources.
Harm Reduction Coalition
HRC is a diverse network of community- based organizations, service providers, researchers, policy-makers, academics, and activists challenging the persistent stigma placed on people who use drugs and advocating for sensible policy reform. Resources include information on HIV, hepatitis C, overdose, syringe access, drug treatment and harm reduction techniques.
The National Association of State Controlled Substance Authorities
NASCSA provides a continuing mechanism through which agencies can work to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of efforts to prevent and control drug diversion and abuse, and to provide an educational forum to further this purpose. |
